These box lanterns are four foot square and made of 1/4 inch steel plate. The building is in the Stellar Airpark in Chandler. The aviation silhouettes are cut out with a digitally controlled water jet table.

The amber colored panels inside the boxes are made of a translucent mineral called mica. Ferric nitrate turns freshly sandblasted carbon steel from grey to rust in about 20 minutes.
